Austal Philippines’ Trainee Program

Austal Philippines has a commitment to developing and retaining world-class trainees. In 2013, Austal Philippines pioneered a training program that has become an integral part of its corporate social responsibility program, the Technical Skills Development Program.

The Technical Skills Development Program aims to improve the futures of underprivileged but talented youth in the local community by offering training opportunities for a number of shipbuilding trades including:

• Fabrication;
• Engineering;
• Electrical; and
• Fit out.

Austal Philippines aims to have one batch of trainees per trade every fiscal year.

The program also provides trainees with the general skills and knowledge required to work in a world class shipyard. When they successfully complete the program, trainees will gain preference for employment at Austal Philippines.

The TSDP program creates an opportunity for trainees to achieve personal goals, improve the lives of their families, and become role models in their local communities.

Other than the Technical Skills Development Program, Austal Philippines offers opportunities for design staff and production tradespersons to visit Austal Australia to strengthen their capabilities and establish sustainable Design and Production Departments at AP.

Austal Philippines has also partnered with the prestigious university – University of Cebu in the region that offers shipbuilding related courses such as Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering. This partnership allows selected students the opportunity to perform their required work experience at Austal Philippines facilities so they may be exposed to the actual processes they have studied.
